Fertility yoga for the days following your period
Cycle days following menstruation when trying to conceive
The days following your period can be a wonderful time to embrace a new beginning, and look forward with hope about new possibilities.
Ayurveda (which is an ancient form of Indian holistic medicine) recognizes the 3 days following menstruation as a ‘transitional phase’.
During this transitional phase, you may feel excited, or you may still feel a little tired, or even drained and exhausted.
If you’ve never paid attention before, I encourage you to notice your energy levels on the days following your period as it can be a good indicator of whether or not you took enough time to rest during your bleed. Remember, we cannot heal without rest!
Practicing an appropriate yoga sequence on the days after menstruation can be a great way to restore your energy levels and bring balance to both your endocrine and nervous system.
What type of yoga should you be practicing after your bleed if you’re TTC?
What would be an “appropriate yoga sequence”?
Regardless of your perceived energy levels, it’s best to build up to your regular yoga practice gradually following menstruation, especially if you are experiencing PMS symptoms or are struggling to conceive.
A suitable sequence for the 3 days following the last day of your period is one with:
standing poses to reawaken the body,
inversions to relax the uterus and balance the endocrine system
and seated forward folds to calm your nervous system.
During this time, you can use affirmations that acknowledge the start of a new beginning such as:
“I look forward to new possibility” or
“I set myself free” or
“I open myself to my highest potential”
The following reel will give you an idea for a quick sequence you can do at home during this phase of your cycle.
